DEPARTMENT of SOCIAL WORKS

The Department of Social Work in Christ Nagar College Maranalloor was officially inaugurated on 21st November 2022 with the Post Graduate Programme in Social Work (MSW). The Department is deep rooted in the value based higher education and demand driven approach to cater evidence based professional practice in the social care profession. The Department envisages the vision to Enlighten the Minds and Light up the Ways as professional social work practitioners. The Post Graduate Programme in Social Work offers two specialisations, Rural and Urban Community Development and Medical and Psychiatric Social Work. The department imparts its academic, outreach and extension programmes by giving importance to groom committed social work practitioners with values of justice, care and empathy.

The Department has undertaken hands of extension and outreach programmes in various settings related to the field work practicum since its inception. Department collaborates with different Central and State Government Organisations, NGOs.Local-Self Government Institutions and other social service agencies. The Department has achieved appreciation certificates for its exemplary efforts of its community outreach from Kerala State AIDS Control Society and National Career Service Centre for Differently Abled.

Department of Social work imparts knowledge skills and training to become committed social work practitioners with values of justice, care and empathy in order to serve and empower individuals, families and societies. It imparts professional values, ethics and knowledge in social work practice by emphasising respect for human dignity, uniqueness and freedom beyond any socio-cultural and political differences.

• To prepare competent and efficient practitioners with philanthropic perspective, professional skills, critical thinking and cognitive frame of human ethos to work among individuals, families and community clientele.
• To enhance professional competency of practitioners through theoretical knowledge and field work practicum.
• To prepare professionals who affirm social work values and ethics.
• To develop professionals to address all forms of discrimination for maintaining advocacy in habitation, rehabilitation and social justice.
• To empower practitioners to compete with global challenges of their professional and non-professional milieu.
• To develop the body of knowledge of Social Work by promoting research highlighting the issues of life, livelihood and other socio -cultural environment.
• To design innovative, diverse and sustainable models of social care profession to foster productivity among practitioners
